Yarrowia lipolytica has been a valuable biotechnological workhorse for the production of commercially important biochemicals over 70 years. The knowledge gained so far on native biosynthetic pathways, as well availability numerous systems and synthetic biology tools, enabled not only regulation redesign existing metabolic but also introduction novel ones; further consolidating position yeast in industrial biotechnology. However, development competitive sustainable processes, bioengineering should be reinforced by bioprocess optimization strategies. Although there are many published reviews bioconversion various carbon sources to value-added products lipolytica, fewer works have focused reviewing up-to-date strain, medium, process engineering strategies with an aim emphasize significance integrated approaches. ultimate goal this work is summarize necessary inspire routes manipulate at level machineries combining strain engineering.
